The Community

Community and Conservation

There are many lodges in the area of Cuyabeno for you to choose from, yet none have the culturally enriched experience of the Secoya Lodge.

The Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve is one of the most biodiverse regions in Ecuador. This is a community owned and run operation that prides itself on sharing our culture and knowledge of the rain forest.  We are the only lodge that offers a tour of a botanical garden created to demonstrate the use of 100s of different plants.  We are also the only community owned lodge in the region in this price range.  Your visit will help us maintain our small 30,000 hectares, and give us an incentive not to sell our trees or land to oil companies and palm plantations.  As a people of the forest, we would rather keep our land in prime condition and earn money in other activities, but at times we are not left with many options.  Our lodge creates 15 solid jobs for community members that could be altparticipating in extractive activities to earn money as well as help to fund conservation projects.

“Magicians of the Forest”

The Secoya are known for their deep knowledge of the forest. Allow the Secoya guides to show you a side of the forest that only they can show you.  Learn the extent of the Secoya’s knowledge of medicinal plants, and try the herbal teas and natural energy drinks produced from their forest.  Immerse yourself on an adventure with the Secoya and leave understanding how valuable and precious our rain forests really are.
